Consider the following course of action then. Do an Office Repair. Go to Word, Options, Trust Center, Privacy Options and check (select) the option to 'Download a file periodically from Microsoft'. Complete that and exit, then Help, Diagnostics and run Diagnostics. This should take a while. Allow to complete and restart.

After restart, go to Programs and Features, click on Office and Change. Do a Modify and check that Equation Editor is installed. You might at this time elect Full Install instead of Typical to make sure all you need is installed. You do not need languages foreign to you, but take everything else.
