Zodiac supplies the correct patches and glue in their repair kit that comes with the boat. If you have used up your patches or glue or buy a used boat without the repair kit, you will have to go to a Zodiac Inflatable Boat repair shop to buy the appropriate patch material or glue.
Inflatable Boats are built in two main types of material. PVC or Hypalon. It is recommemded that you purchase the same patching material as the boat.
The same applies for the glue. Zodiac has two different types of glue that they recommend for the repair of Inflatables. For the PVC boats they recommend Pastomere All Purpose Adhesive. For Hypalon, Zodiac recommends Neoprene Adhesive.
In a pinch, you can use the Pastomere Glue on Hypalon material with extremely careful preparation. Keep in mind that Hypalon is a more finicky material and requires careful preparation at any time to make a good patch job.
Hello, I just want to know how much product do you think I need to buy for redoing the transom. It is a Zodiac just like the one in the illustration and it’s PVC. I know I’m going to need one part Hypalon Adhesive for the wood transom and 2 part PVC glue for the rest.
Thank you for the great tutorial. I have one quick tip to share. I have to replace the whole transom, so I bought a sheet of 3/4″ marine plywood and used the old one as a template. I then rough cut it with a jig saw then I used a 2hp router with a pattern router bit. You just place the old transom over the top of the plywood and it trimmed it perfectly, exact match. I cleaned off all the old glue with Methyl Ethyl Ketone (MEK) then wiped entire area with acetone. All old glue removed. Then I used 2 part hypalon adhesive to prime the rubber parts then 2 part pvc adhesive to prime the tubes. When both parts had been drying for 30 mins I then put a second coat of 2 part hypalon adhesive onto rubber & another coat of 2 part pvc onto tubes.
